Viva la Revolution - Die Erste

Da die E3-Pressekonferenz von Nintendo dieses Jahr eher zurückhaltend abgelaufen ist, haben sich die Gerüchte über die neue Konsole `Revolution´ im Internet geradezu überschlagen. Daher habe ich mir gedacht, dass es an der Zeit ist, das ganze mal zusammenzufassen und dabei gleich eine neue Kategorie auf der Seite aufzumachen. Hier werde ich versuchen stets die aktuellsten Gerüchte und Fakes für euch zusammenzufassen. Denn Gerüchte müssen ja nicht immer falsch sein...

Direkt nach der PK am 17. Mai 2005 gingen die ersten Gerüchte um. Es hieß, dass die wahre Revolution erst später vorgestellt werden soll. Diese Gerüchte wurden von einem Menschen mit dem Namen `Aries´ in die Welt gesetzt. Bevor ich mit den Gerüchten anfange, erstmal ein Wort zu besagter Person, denn es weiß niemand so recht, wer das eigentlich ist. Viel spricht dafür, dass es sich um Reggie Fils-Aime handelt. Dafür spricht, dass Reggies Sternzeichen Widder auf Englisch Aries heißt und dass sich das Pseudonym aus seinem Namen bilden lässt. Dagegen spricht, dass Aries behauptet, er hätte 5 Jahre bei Nintendo gearbeitet und würde jetzt bei einem großen Publisher angestellt sein. Reggie ist allerdings immer noch bei Nintendo. Aber nun zurück zu den wichtigen Gerüchten.

Aries hat viele Dinge prophezeit, die tatsächlich eingetroffen sind. So hat er Ende April behauptet zu wissen, dass Nintendo auf der E3 ein GameBoy Advance Update vorstellen wird und dass für Revolution ein Smash-Brothers Online-Titel in der Mache ist. All das stellte sich während der PK als wahr heraus. Doch nun zu seinen interessanten Ideen. Ich fasse zunächst zusammen, was er geschrieben hat und werde danach seine Worte komplett auflisten, damit jeder der das will die Möglichkeit hat, alles genau nachzulesen.

Hier die Aussagen zusammengefasst: Er war 5 Jahre lang Mitarbeiter bei Nintendo of Amerika und arbeitet nun für einen großen Dritthersteller. Zurzeit arbeitet er selber an einem Spiel für Revolution, welche im übrigen stärker sein soll als die X-Box 360 und sich ungefähr auf demselben Niveau wie der PS3 befindet. Die Tatsache, dass viele über Spiele wie `Perfect Dark Zero´ reden lässt ihn schmunzeln, denn Nintendo und Sony werden auf der E3 `Halo Killer´ zeigen und besonders Nintendo wird es bald allen zeigen. Denn das, was sie auf der PK als Revolution zeigen werden, sei nur eine Ablenkung. Das wahre Monster wird kurz darauf der Öffentlichkeit präsentiert werden und alle werden baff sein, wenn sie es erleben dürfen.

Und hier seine wichtigsten Aussagen: „I worked for NOA for 5 years, and I am now currently working with a major 3rd party developer who happens to be working on all three next generation consoles. I´m not going to give out the company name, due to obvious reasons.

The next generation hardware will bring about a total change in the way we view video games. You already know about the power of the Xbox 360 (Huxley is a great example), but the PS3 and the Revolution are going to blow you away. All three will be at E3, don´t worry. I knew the PS3 was going to be a very capible piece of hardware, but I didn´t image it would be as powerful as it truly is. Microsoft ran around telling everyone how much more powerful the Xbox was over the PS2 and GC. I wonder how they are going to market the Xbox 360, since in will be the weakest next generation console.

I´m going to reveal some details about the Revolution, as well as give out some hints. I probally won´t reveal the "revolutionary" aspect of it, though. Nintendo has a enormous suprise waiting for you all at E3. You won?t believe your eyes.

Like I said, I´m going to give out some details on the next gen hardware, especially the Nintendo Revolution. You guys already know a lot of information on the Xbox 360; you guys have already seen the specs of the system. Gamespy released them around GDC. I was at GDC, and I´ll fill you in on some stuff that IGN can´t talk about. Specs and details on the Nintendo Revolution were given out to developers during the conference. I can verify that my company as well as EA and Midway received them at GDC. I´m positive other publishers received them as well.

From what I´ve heard, Capcom and Namco are sold on the Revolution and are currently playing around with the development kits. I don´t know whether they are actually making games for it though. I was suprised to hear that Square Soft has a game in development for the Revolution. It will be at E3 as well as some other next gen titles for the PS3.

I´m currently working on a game for the Revolution as well. I can´t guarantee that it will be at E3 though. I think people are going to be very suprised. When I worked with Nintendo, I was able to see the earliest builds of the system. It has come a long way, to say the least. There are a lot of graphics whores out there who feel the Revolution will be a weak system. They will be very suprised come E3. Microsoft is banking on stealing the show, but I think they will be upstaged by Nintendo as well as Sony. It´s going to be very funny to see them trying to get people excited about Perfect Dark 0 when both Nintendo and Sony will be showing off Halo killers.

I´m not going to share specs with you because they aren´t really that important. I think Iwata said something like that when asked the same question. All three consoles are going to be very powerful, trust me. I´ll give you some information though: it will be more powerful than the Xbox 360. Much more powerful. Many gamers seem to think it will be as powerful as the GBA or something. That isn´t the case at all. From what I saw during my time their as well as our game, it will be very capible.

But having the most powerful console doesn´t guarantee that gamers are going to buy it. Software sells the games. And if that statement holds true next generation, the Nintendo Revolution will be very popular.

In my next post I will "spill the beans" on everything I know about the Revolution. I´ll give you some hints though. All the rumors out there are not mere rumors. Some are planted by people who are working on the consoles. In fact, Nintendo is doing this right now with the information they´ve released on the Revolution. You are going to see why Nintendo hasn´t just come out and said confirmed that the Revolution is going to be very powerful. You´re going to be punk´d by them in a couple weeks. Pay attention to the boards, especially Nintendo´s board. It´s much better than OurColony.

Brooke said, console ideas are nothing without good games. Once you see the games, you will understand. I would go as far to say that the Revolution isn´t as revolutionary as Nintendo is saying. It should be called the Nintendo Simplicity, because every aspect I mentioned greatly simplifies the gaming experience. For instance, the pressure sensitive grips on the controller make racing games much easier to control and play. Wave Race (yes, it will be at E3) is going to be very impressive because it will use this function. It will be sort of like controlling a game with one of those stress balls. You squeeze it and you go faster. It´s hard to explain though.

Don´t expect to see too much if any of the controller at E3 though. Nintendo is still trying to decide what to show and what not to show. The games will be revealed, as well as specs and the system design. But the controller is still being considered.

From what I´m hearing, the Revolution will have some impressive 3rd party support around launch. EA, Capcom, Namco, Konami, Majesto, Squaresoft (sorry, I still call them that), and my company are supporting it so far. I´m sure others are working on stuff. For instance, I don´t see why a game like Soul Caliber III won´t be on the Revolution. Squaresoft has a game ready for E3, as well as Zoonami. So yes, it looks like it will get better 3rd party support. But this could change if the system is unsuccessful.

I´m currently working on one Revolution game. Right now, we are still in the early stages of development. We have alot of concrete things down, but not enough to show I don´t think. Of course this could change if our publisher wants us to show our hand at E3.

I´m not going to give out the secret. It´s going to be very fun; wait until E3. Nintendo is going to roll out a trojan horse: something that looks innocent and weak and them bam, it will be unveiled. Just don´t make up your mind on the first day of E3.“

Nachdem ich dies alles gelesen hatte, wurde mir ganz warm ums Herz. Sollte Nintendo uns wirklich alle reingelegt haben. Doch zunächst komme ich mal zu einigen weiteren interessanten Gerüchten:

Osoko Tanaka, angeblich ein japanischer Mitarbeiter von Nintendo, der an der Konsole mitgearbeitet hat, behauptete dass Nintendo die PK inszeniert hat um alle zu enttäuschen. Damit soll erreicht werden, dass alle umso mehr beeindruckt sind, wenn sie die wirkliche Bombe platzen lassen. Angeblich soll IGN einen exklusiven Deal mit Nintendo haben. Womit wir beim nächsten Punkt sind:

Die meisten von euch kennen den `Nintendo-On´ Trailer, den es auf IGN (und unter www.nintendoon.com) gibt. Diese Seite wurde von einem gewissen Reggie Fils-Aime ins Leben gerufen. Bloß ein komischer Zufall? In dem Video sieht man, wie auch auf der PK, ein Metroid Video und einen Überblick über viele Nintendo-Klassiker. Auch die sind nun bestätigt mit Revolution verbunden. Zu guter letzt sieht man ziemlich viele Toadstool-Schlösser aus Super Mario 64. Angeblich sind es 512.000.000 Stück. Spielt man ein bisschen mit dieser Zahl, kommt dabei folgendes heraus:

Millisekunden in Sekunden: 512.000.000 : 1000 = 512.000 Sekunden in Minuten: 512.000 : 60 = 8533,3 Minuten in Stunden: 8533,3 : 60 = 142,2 Stunden in Tage: 142,2 : 24 = 5,9

Gerundet als 6 Tage. Wenn man den Tag auf den das Video erschien (13. Mai) 6 Tage addiert, kommt man auf den 19. Mai. Sollte Nintendo hier die Bombe platzen lassen? War doch an diesem Tag um 10 Uhr eine Termin von Nintendo angekündigt worden. Und alle die genau aufgepasst haben, werden bemerkt haben, dass die Uhr die man in Nintendogs auf der PK am 17. Mai gesehen hat, den 19. Mai um 10:10 anzeigte. Wieder nur ein Zufall?

Wie sich am 19. Mai um 10 Uhr herausstellte: Ja! All das waren nur Gerüchte, die sich NICHT bewahrheitet haben. Zumindest NOCH nicht. Denn am 19. Mai um 10 Uhr lies Nintendo keine Bombe platzen... Warum schreibe ich das dann alles? Weil es mal gesagt werden musste und weil ich finde, dass es erwähnenswert ist, wozu Gerüchte in der Lage sind. Viele Fans haben sich gegenseitig hochgeschaukelt und dabei ein wirklich dichtes Gerücht geschaffen. Aber das muss es ja nicht gewesen sein, denn Gerüchte wird es geben, bis die Konsole wirklich vorgestellt wurde. Bleibt also bis Ende des Jahres noch genug Zeit zum spekulieren. Ich bin schon sehr gespannt, wie die nächste Seifenblase aussehen wird…
