Keine Überraschung, aber trotzdem erfreulich: In einem "Iwate asks"-Interview zum 25jährigen Jubiläum der Super Mario Bros.-Reihe kündigte Miyamoto einen Serienvertreter für 3DS an: "So, in the interests of adopting new technology for the Super Mario Bros. tradition, I am now making a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Nintendo 3DS system. [...] I want to show everyone as soon as possible what the new Super Mario Bros. will be like on the Nintendo 3DS."

Offen bleibt, in welche Richtung das Gameplay gehen wird, auch wenn "Super Mario Bros." eher ein 2D-Jump&Run vermuten lässt als ein Spiel im Stile eines Super Mario 64 oder Sunshine. Sehr wahrscheinlich, dass wir spätestens nach der kommenden E3 Genaueres wissen.
