Activision und Ubisoft EU: "Rechnet noch nicht mit Nintendo ab!"

Nintendo hatte einen schlechten Start in dieser Konsolengeneration: Der 3DS verkaufte sich anfangs schlecht und auch die Wii U kann bei weitem nicht mit dem Erfolg des Vorgängers mithalten. Der 3DS konnte durch einen Preisnachlass zwar ordentlich aufholen und die Wii U holt mit Killer-Apps wie Mario Kart 8 zwar langsam auf, dennoch dämpfen die mangelnde Unterstützung von EA und der Entzug der "Erwachsenenspiele" von Ubisoft die Hoffnung, dass die Wii U eine ernsthafte Konkurrenz zu PS4 und Xbox One wird - schwarzmalerische Kritiker prophezeien sogar das Ende Nintendos.

Eric Hirschberg - Leiter von Activision - ist hier jedoch ganz anderer Meinung: Nintendo wird - längerfristig gesehen - nicht so schnell untergehen:

"They are obviously not off to the start they've probably hoped they would've had with the Wii U, but they also have some of the world's best IP and some of the world's best game makers. I've always said they've been through rough hardware cycles before, but when you have the kind of game makers and beloved IP like they do, you can't count [Nintendo] out for the long-term."

Nicht alle von Activision's Titeln schaffen es auf die Wii U - darunter auch das neueste Call of Duty - allerdings unterstützen sie mit Skylanders: Trap Team nicht nur 3DS und Wii U, sondern auch die Wii und bieten dazu noch einen kostenlosen Downloadcode für die Next-Gen Version an.

Auch der europäische Chef von Ubisoft Alan Corre äußerte sich positiver als sein Partner Yves Guillemot. Trotz des Entzugs der "Erwachsenenspiele" werden sie die Wii U noch weiterhin mit familienfreundlichen Games wie Just Dance 2015 unterstützen. Des weiteren glaubt er, dass Super Smash Bros. die Verkäufe zu Weihnachten stark ankurbeln dürfte:

"To be honest, we always want more consoles. Just Dance 2015 is resonating very well. We think it will please a lot of [existing] Wii U owners and push more families to buy extra Wii Us.
But we also believe that Super Smash Bros. will be a trigger to increase the momentum of the Wii U at Christmas. As a gamer, I was playing [Super Smash Bros.] over ten years ago, and it has some of the best moments that Nintendo has shared. I think that franchise could be magical [for the Wii U].
Nintendo has some of the best franchises in the world and it knows how to make great games. It proved that with Mario Kart, and it will prove that again with Super Smash"
