Nintendo Switch – zwei neue Modelle noch dieses Jahr?

Das Wall Street Journal will aus gut unterrichteten Quellen erfahren haben, dass Nintendo nicht nur eins, sondern gleich zwei neue Modelle der Switch in Arbeit hat und diese womöglich bereits im Sommer veröffentlicht werden könnten.

Demnach ist eine Variante mit aufgemotzter Technik in Arbeit, die sich stärker an die Zielgruppe der anspruchsvolleren Zocker wendet – was genau neu bzw. besser daran sein soll, wird nicht gesagt, nur dass die Leistung auch dann nicht an PS4 Pro oder Xbox One X heranreichen wird.

Die zweiter Variante ist als billigere Option für Gelegenheitsspieler gedacht und dient praktisch als Quasi-Nachfolger für den 3DS. Bei diesem Modell werden Funkitonalitäten eingespart, als Beispiel wird das Rumble-Feakture genannt, das wegfallen dürfte.

Angekündigt werden die beiden neuen Switch-Modelle laut Wall Street Journal wohl zur E3 und gehen dann vielleicht auch schon wenige Monate später in den Verkauf. Was mit der “klassischen” Switch passieren wird, ist offen, aber sie dürfte vermutlich dann nicht mehr weiter produziert werden.

Professor Layton And The Curious Village Appears To Be Making The Switch

Last time we heard about the 2007 DS title Professor Layton and the Curious Village, was when it was discovered the classic story-driven puzzle game by Level-5 was being ported across to Android and iOS.

Now, according to a listing on the G4F Localisation website, Professor Layton’s original outing is on its way to the Nintendo Switch. The webpage makes mention of an Italian, German and Spanish translation by Native Prime.

This listing makes a lot of sense when the same website mentions a localisation for the Switch version of Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy, which was rated by the Australian Classification Board in February and released in Japan last year.

Nintendo Switch hat das Nintendo 64 bei den Verkaufszahlen überholt

Das war abzusehen: Nachdem die Switch schon Wii U und Gamecube bei den Verkaufszahlen überholt hat, musste jetzt auch das Nintendo 64 dran glauben. Laut VGChartz kommt Nintendos Hybridkonsole nämlich mittlerweile auf 33,15 Millionen abgesetzte Einheiten, während vom Nintendo 64 im Laufe seines Lebens “nur” 32,93 Millionen Konsolen verkauft werden konnten.

Das Nintendo 64 erschien am 23. Juni 1996 in Japan und am 1. März 1997 in Europa. Die Produktion endete am 30. April 2002.

Echt ey, die Verkäufe einer Konsole mit einem Handheld zu vergleichen ist schon ziemlich unfair der Konsole gegenüber (es sei denn die Konsole nennt sich "PlayStation 2").

Rumour: Dataminer Supposedly Uncovers Tech Specs For New And Improved Switch

Is another model on the way?

Following on from yesterday's news about Nintendo's possible plan to update some of the components in the original Switch model, a hacker and dataminer known as Mike Heskin has now taken to Twitter to share his own findings about the recently announced Lite model and a completely new and improved system, that's rumoured to be on the way.

This information has been extracted from recent firmware updates. Below is the full summary, courtesy of the ResetEra user Atheerios:

Since firmware 5.0 there has been support for three hardware lines, one with the original Tegra 210 and two for the new Tegra 214 (Mariko)

Those two hardware lines are Switch Lite and Switch "New".

The original Switch has 4GB of RAM and 6GB for the devkit. The new models have support for both 4GB and 8GB of RAM.

Both Switch Lite and "New" use LPDDR4X DRAM which grants a small battery boost due to lower voltages.

Switch Lite has a smaller screen and non-detachable controllers while "New" Switch should have the exact same form factor.

The GPU in the "New" Switch is clocked at higher values than Switch Lite, potentially giving a modest performance boost.

Larger than 32GB memory is possible in the "New" units. Two models have been found in the firmware (codenames "Iowa" and "Calcio") and is speculated that one will have more internal storage.

There's absolutely no evidence of an actual "Pro" version. At least not in the sense that it would be based off of the Tegra X2 or have massive performance and/or memory improvements.

Not long after the Switch Lite was revealed to the world, Doug Bowser explained it would be the only new Switch hardware coming this holiday and that the original model would not be receiving an upgrade right now. As already mentioned above, this followed with Nintendo filing a "Class II Permission Change" to the FCC.
